Butterfly

I just can't capture a good picture of this butterfly. The metallic paper doesn't show very well on camera. The colors are much prettier in real life.

Fishie, fishie

A few weeks ago, while looking for quilling ideas, I ran across this fish design.  I just had to try to make it for myself.

I wish I could credit the original designer. When I find the artists name I will.

Here is my version:

The Lego crimper!

Wanted it...

Got it!!!

Bouquet

I have been working on this one for quite a while. I loved making these flowers. Everyday I am finding and applying new techniques. My only problem is arrangement. I don't know why I just can't arrange the flowers in a pleasing order.  It took a while but I think I finally got this one to look good.

What do you think?

New piece for our bathroom re-do.

We recently repainted the guest bathroom. This is why:

To me it looked like happy whales trying to avoid a nasty saw blade.

It was not my style so we did this:

And I made this to match the colors:

A new technique

I found this new way of quilling the other day. I think it is so pretty. I am adding elements to an old lampshade.

Homemade tools! The crimper

As much as I love to shop and buy cool stuff for my hobby, making or just using "free" things from around the house feels like a small victory.

As I have said from the beginning, I am new to this craft so my tools are few and far between. One tool that I have wanted was a paper crimper. The one I saw in a book was just a simple set of gears on a block of wood.  That's easy!

So off I go on a hunt around the house for some gears that weren't being used. No luck, or I just wasn't thinking properly. I couldn't even find an old VHS tape to take apart!

Then my dear husband comes to the rescue. An old CD cleaner.

It was perfect!

A little awkward to use but the end result is exactly as I wanted.
Cool!
But then I saw this from a google image search:
Now I MUST HAVE!!! =)

Card and matching envelope

Here is my latest creation. A thank you card with matching envelope. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my sister-in-law recently came here for a visit.

While she was here we took a trip to Michael's. She bought me a pack of beautiful paper sheets. So the first thing I did after she left was make a card and envelope thanking her for her visit.

The peacocks moved to Texas

My sister-in-law fell in love with the peacocks during her visit.

So I had to do a little re-arranging for the peacocks and tree to fit in the gorgeous frame I found at Michael's - ON CLEARANCE!

Here is the result:

Peacocks!

So I have been quilling for about 3 weeks now. I did these peacocks and tree inspired from an image I saw at http://quillingideas.blogspot.com/. They were a lot of fun to do. Great practice. Thanks Mona Jain!
